TOPIC: Lost one oscar. tank mate is "lonely" what do I do

Lost one oscar. tank mate is "lonely" what do I do 3 years ago #36138

I had these two together in the tank from the start. The black and orange tiger we just lost be to air bladder problems. No my Albino is "lonely" in her big tank.

Should I get another oscar? she is huge so I worry about another oscar unless it is mid sized ?

Help:unsure:

Sometimes that will work, others not, it all depends on your O. You're right to try to get one about the same size, you might want to have a tank divider ready just in case. What size is your tank?

welcome to the site

sorry tohear about your oscar. now adding another oscar to the tank is a hit or miss kinda thing. some o's will gladly accept a new oscar for a tankmate and other will not. the only to know is to try it and see(assuming your tank is big enough to house 2 oscars). and like sins stated be sure to have a divider handy just in case.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

My Oscar has been sad for some weeks after his mate, a sunfish died.
This week I bought a Vieja Synspilum the same size as my oscar, allmost 10".
Now all is well again and my Oscar has the distraction he needs!
But it's allways a guess if things will work out.
I'm glad I bought him a new friend, he acts normal again.

I am sorry to hear about everyones O's passing on. It is hard because they can live so long. I had one pass away on me a couple of years back and I purchased a large clown loach fo a companion for my other one and they were fine from the get go. But it all really depends on the attitude of your oscar...Hope this helps
