There are more than likely planeria, free swimming parasites that get into your tank on plants, rocks gravel etc. As a rule of thumb, if they aren't on your fish, they shouldn't cause any harm. They sound like they could be little parasites called flatworms. Obviously, without seeing them that's a rough guess. Although they are unsightly, I shouldn't worry too much about them. Getting rid of them normally involve stripping the whole tank down. However, you could start harvesting them to keep the numbers down. Eradicating them totally by doing this is unlikely though. I've never had these myself, other people may have other ideas of how to get rid of them. I've had snails before, they are a real pain in the backside.

I would check on you feeding level. If they are planeria they live on excess food. Only feed what your fish will eat in 3 minutes no matter how much they beg for food!!!!

Its the begging that makes it so damn hard not to over-feed! You haven't seen mine beggin, I feel like a bully when I just talk to them and not give them something nice!

You might have hydra in the tank. Can you post a photo?

Probably protein worms, which are a kind of planaria.

I've had them in my tanks, fish love 'em:lol:

You have to remember that if you give in to oscars and feed them when they beg you will be doing them harm. Your nitrates will go sky high and you will cause them health problem. The best description of oscars I have ever heard is that they are professional beggers. That just about sums them up. Dont give in
