I just wanted to share with you all. I was in PetsMart on Friday night picking up some plants and I always enjoy looking at the fish. I was checking out the Oscars and I saw a little albino with the most severe HITH. I swear like half his head was gone. I wish I had had a camera phone I would show you a pick. I wondered if anything could be done at that point or if it should be just put down, it was so pitiful looking. I was talking to my husband about it and we were wondering if they even could feel pain or recover from it.

It's very sad to see things like that. PETA should be keeping an eye on them. If you wanted you could report them and force them to do better.

i am not sure if fishes are included in the PETA policy.
in my place, only the big one like dogs, cats, birds, and the
like are being covered by animal welfare act.

Paul, I believe here, Peta will get involved. We have a LFS, and they treat their fish horribly. May people have sent pics to Peta. I will not ever buy from there, but the last time I was in there they had 6 adult O's in a 55. the tank was so dirty you almost couldn't see the fish. And the worst case of HITH I have ever seen. Sorry small rant. I HATE THAT STORE!!!

The people in this store, are rude, mean, and EVIL. They are independently wealthy and don't give a shit weather or not they sell anything!

i also live close to a shop like those...
there was a full grown O in a 2 ft tank with no room to move for ages. then they even took his filter away with a air hose sitiing on top of water. he had to sit in the same spot all day just to breathe.
not to mention the smaller fish always have dead or diseased ones in with them, tanks are always filthy. the only decent tank they kept was the saltwater.

this is where i got my O's when the were smaller.
i just couldnt bear to see them in those conditions.

We should find out where PETA stands on this just so we'll know.

I hear ya.... These people only do fresh water so all the tanks are nasty! Anyway they now have a sign posted that you are not allowed to take pictures in the store. It is horrible.

so these people just get away with maltreatment of fish?
if it were a pet store with rabbits, kittens etc they wouldnt get away with letting their stock live in nasty conditions
why should fish be any different?
especially the longer living ones, some fish have to live like that for years and then die from their poor health.

im not sure about PETA here... would that be the same as RSPCA?

I don't know. I do know our local humane society wouldn't do anything. Trust me I have tried!

i have seen one lfs that disposes their dead fish in the waterways.
i ask the city gov't if they have committed a violation for doing so.
i was told if somebody would file a complaints, then they would go and
take a visit to the store and i would be a complainants. do you thinks
i can waste my time in attending a hearing instead of them reprimanding
the store for doing bad things.
