I was told today that its fine not to have air stone or power head
running oxygen into the tank.
I have already had a look on this forum about that.
Ive always used power heads to run bubbles.
So toady I tried running power head with no bubbles knowing that there will be plenty of oxygen in the inlet flows of my 2 filters.
And after about 1 hour all Oscar's started to stay at top of tank so I think they where trying to tell me RUN BUBBLES.

Dose anyone here have tanks with no viable bubbles but fish still getting heaps of oxygen.

I tried to run no bubbles in my tank and my oscar did the same thing, I switched back to bubbles and he went back to the norm. I was under the understanding that as long as you do frequent water changes you would be fine without bubbles but I think that I was wrong after seeing my O react to no bubbles. I would say run them

I run a pond airator with 4 airstones.Loads of bubbles!
I handfeed my oscar, but if i turn of the bubbles, he's gone!
does not eat out of my hand anymore.
Mu O loves to play near the powerhead and bubbles doing funny moves!

Ok the next thing that I tried was turning of the bubbles and using the inlet spray bar from my filter to break the top of water line witch adds oxygen will work.
I tried it for about 5 hours now and the fish are all still happy.
I just like the affect it has with out bubbles as the tank looks alot calmer and still but with a good flow of water up top.
I have one of those inlet tubes that is very long and full of holes and is in 4 section so I turned 2 up to break water surface and 2 facing down into the tank to have good water flow up and down and the Oscars are quite happy.

bubbles are meant to add oxygen dissolved in the water.
raising temp deplete oxygen, thus, air stone is needed.
without air stone, you need to ripple the discharge of
your filter pump to aerate the system, dissolving oxygen
into the water by turbulence cause by it.

some people who doesn't want tiny bubbles create a little
wave in the tank with the same effect, dissolving oxygen.

if your fish is suffering from suffocation, (lack of oxygen)
put it in plastic bag and inflate it with oxygen to survive.
