TOPIC: Leaving my oscars

Leaving my oscars 2 years, 12 months ago #37625

In October I will be leaving my oscars for 2 weeks. They are around 3 inch maybe a little bit bigger, I could give them food blocks but don't know how many and a friend might come in and feed them but I'm not sure yet .

Cheers for your replys

First off how many oscars do you have?
Second how big of tank are they in

reason I ask because by October those oscars could be around 6-7 inches in size

I have two with some tank mates in a 75 gallon tank

Oscars can go some tiume without feeding... what are the tank mates that you have? and also I would be concerned about Nitrate build up cause oscars are messy and your tank will not be getting any water changes for those 2 weeks

I have a pleco and a gala shark and 4 tin foil barbs all fully grown and 2 blue acaras and a parrot fish and some louches

I clean my tank every week and will do a water change a day before I go,

WOW!! Thats a lot of fish for a 75 gal. tank. One O alone in enough for 75 gal. Maybe the mods or OFL will explain it better than I.

Yeah I know, but I filled the tank with other fish first then decided to go back to oscars and didn't want to give any away but I put the smaller fish in other tanks and gave some away

Growing O's need food on a regular basis. Can you pre-measure out food and ask a friend to deliver it at a prescribed time. Maybe every other day and put out so many pellets in a baggie for each feeding. The feeder blocks might be alright for the other fish and waffers for the pleco.

most concern had been covered by oldmedic and warlock1977.

two week would not be too long for your fishes with out food.
just make sure your water is on tip top condition the day before
you leave and a friend could feed them once a week. it is better
this way than allowing someone to improperly feed them. (too much
food is worse than without for a while).

without food, they could survived in more than two weeks... while
too much food could poison them in 3 to 4 days due to ammonia and
nitrite spike.

your O's tank mates might go missing if you leave them for two weeks...
other pets are my colt (Freddo Frog), my staffy (Tank) and my boxer x,(Steph)

my mom watches my fish for me o holidays and I explain exact amounts of food for every fish.
She ever cleans my pre-filter when i'm gone.
Than she tells me all the stories of what all the fish were doing when I was gone!, she'll stay up half the night to watch the plecos and the other fish.
Think my Ichtophilia is genetic!
She loves to observe them for hours, like me!
And no of my animals ever died when under her care!
And she only has to travel for 3,5 hours to get here.....
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
