Hi,
I have recently found a very nice oscar that i'm thinking of adding to the tank, the thing is his colour is white [not albino] with full red sides, up till now I have only seen white tigers [with orange stripes] and this is the first white red oscar I have seen, are there red oscars with white skin like this guy, or does it sound like he's been inked and that white oscars with orange prominantly on the fish are normally tigers [with stripes]?
thanks for any help,
ps- if it helps, hes not a small fish [probably 8"] so his colour is set for adulthood.

Could be just the dominant gene thing.Do you know who has it and where did it come from?

Sounds like a red lutino O, but a pic would help for a positive ID.

in our place... there are so many name for oscars:
a black tiger: with golden yellow markings
: with lemon yellow markings
: with orange markings
: with red markings

a white tiger: with red markings
: with yellow marking
: with black markings (seen only once)
: with orange marking

a yellow oscar with orange markings
a yellow oscar with red markings
a lemon oscar with no marking
a red oscar with no marking (just a spot on tail)
a green oscar with marking is also called tiger oscar

now, if what you saw is white with red markings, it is still
a lutino oscar.

we have reds,white/orange and the greyish wild ones here!
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

the one in the avatar is also a tiger...
however, we are not sure what markings will
it shows later... with its present colorization,
i believe it will have yellow markings like the
one in the ring at the tail.

Your right, its a red Lutino [although, I dont know if its because of the lutino gene, but you couldnt really call it red, its the colour of an orange, very bright though]
I have really taken a liking to this fish, and will be picking him up in the morning and will post a picture of my new guy soon as I can.
As this is the first oscar I have had that is this big [at least 8-9" and very solid] I assume he should just be fed once a day, but how much is recomended? I know about the 3 minute rule, but assuming he's eating mainly large hikari gold pellets, how many should I allow him? he could eat a hell of a lot in 3 minutes and since they will swell up inside him when wet, I dont want to over feed.
thanks for any help.

some people soak first the pellets before
feedings to minimized expansion.

can't wait for the pictures
