No it's not, mine were small like that when they started changing. Casino got his name from the large C on his side and it was gone before he was 4 months old. I really hated to see it go. Since then he's gone from being red and black to a grayish color.

When you say change colour, was that gradually, or a sudden change in colour?

Like most young animals, Oscars have juvenile colours which change quite a lot as they get older. However, this isn't an instant change, you won't wake up one morning and notice that your Oscar looks like a different fish. Many animals change colour for various different reasons, aggravation, breeding, ill-health etc. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your Oscar, just want to make it clear that it is quite normal for Oscars to change colour, but not overnight.

If there is ammonia present, that could be why your Oscar has changed colour. Has it got brighter, or has it gone very pale?

vibrant color in most fishes shows their state of health.
and most oscar do change color as they grows.

dull or pale color needs attention as what OFL had said
while vibrant colors indicates what you are doing is good.
