Other than regularly cleaning the tank glass, is there anything you can do to keep Algae at bay [water parameters are all perfect]
I ask because my local petshop uses something, I think small amounts of copper sulphate.
And my mother said that waaaaaaaaay back in her day, they'd leave a few pennies in the tank and that was supposed to have helped.
Just curious.
thanks.

sounds like a bit of an old wives tale to me

The first thing to remember is that algea is quite normal in aquatic environments so you'll have to live with it to a certain extent. obviously there are ways of stopping it from getting totally out of controlled.

1. Don't leave your lights on too long, eight hours is about the maximum recommended.
2. Don't locate your tank in direct sunlight, this will encourage algae to grow
3. Don't overfeed, high nitrate and uneaten food encourages algae to grow
4. Clean your glass on a regular basis with an algae scraper
5. Carry out regular water changes

Just a few ways that will stop algea taking over your tank
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

in addition to that...
6. increase your water turn over (capacity x 10 pump)
7. increase the volume or lateral surface of your filter media.
