Hi,
My new oscar finally ate today, he's 10-11" long and I seem to remember hearing that fish this size should be fed once daily.
My fish ate 4 hikari gold pellets [large size] this morning before spilling food out of his gills, when I saw this happen, I cut him off.
I know most people say give them all they want in 3 minutes, but he could probably eat over a dozen in that time, just out of greed, and create a huge mess.
Are 4 large pellets at one feed enough for a fish thais size?, and should he still be getting only 1 feed a day, even if its only 4 pellets?
thanks.

I feed my full grown O's at least twice that amount each in pellets , as well as live foods
other pets are my colt (Freddo Frog), my staffy (Tank) and my boxer x,(Steph)

i fed my fishes once a day and as much as they can consume in
3 minutes... but because of good competition, they grabbed more
than they could chomp in one setting, thus, they all have swollen
belly in 3 minutes.

3 to 4 pellets could make their day since they will still
expand inside the stomach after wards.

my O is 12" and I fed him am & pm 5 med Tetra Cichlid sticks, i like the med b/c he swallows them after chewing and less escapes from his gills. also i gave him Cichlid Gold med. he loves his sticks so I would give him 2 or 3 gold first, then gave him sticks. I fed him this way b/c I felt 12 hrs between meals was long enough.

I give my 10" Oscar about 8 pellets a day, plus treats now and then. I never feed live stuff, but thats just my preferance. Some will tell you to give live food and some will say not to.But my O is ALWAYS hungry, so its hard to tell. I don't think I'm starving him!

Thanks for the replies,
He ate 7 pellets yesterday in one sitting, so I guess i'll just let him dictate how much he wants, he could just be eating more now as he is more used to his new home.
He's a lot more curious and friendly over the last few days, so I guess the happier he is, the more his hunger will improve.

what is your temp? 79 deg F is ideal and will make him hungrier
but you have to increase aeration to enhance dissolve oxygen in
the tank. small amount of pure salt also do the tricks keeping
the fish in tip top condition.

Thanks for the advice Paul,
His heater is set at 26deg but since its winter here [Australia] and his tank is close to a window, his temp has been fluctuating a bit [+ or - 1deg] I just checked the temp and it was 26.8/78.8deg.
Thanks for the tip about the oxygen, but since he loves sitting in and swimming through the bubble streams, I already had 2 large airstones pumping in a high amount of extra air.
He ate 7 pellets again yesterday and then stopped, I guess thats his current limit.
thanks again.
