Quick question to get you guys and girls opinion...

I just acquired a 160 gal. tank today and I will be setting it up this weekend to begin cycle. I am going to buy say 10 or so different types of oscars and wait for them to pair of so that I may get a male and female.. I was wondering how long does it usually take for oscars to pair off???? the oscars that I will be getting will be special ordered to my liking of breed and they all will be about 1-2 inches long.

If i remember right they don't pair till maturity. That is not big enough of a tank for all those O's love. That will be 10 adult O's. WOW. Use a pool. LOL

as Nicki said, you need a pool and eventually you have 2 or more pairs.

Interesting question. I have 6 wild caught O's in a growout 120 tank, that are now about 4 inch.I have noticed that 2 tend to hang together in the tank. I may sell the rest and keep these two when they are 5" or so.I have been told to observe them at this age, and take notes as to which one hang together.I've also been told that its luck!!

That may work, but for me mine hung together for about 10 months and now i is hell in water. I am going to have to separate. Hope it works for ya.

Your absolutly correct Nicki, Its almost luck if they pair off. A friend of mine in Ohio that runs a fish rescue had told me to try it. If it dosn't work, seperate them and try again.All you loose if the fun of watching the juvie's grow up right!!And another excuse to buy more juvie's and a new tank!!

I would have to buy lots of tanks because I get too attached... But I actually have 7 empty right now. So Maybe..........

I know what you mean Nicki...How about some wild caught?or maybe a long fin? I have room in my fishroom for another 120-150gal. plus:ohmy:

I love the look of the wild caught as juveniles, but the long fins are my next acquisition... I am in love with them...
