So my tank water just is not the most pleasant smell in the world at all...

The water parameters all check out ok.
I do a 25% water change every third day.
The only fishes in the tank is "Spike" 7" and another lutino tiger(much smaller than spike) 4".
The tank itself is 100 gal.
When I do the water changes I am stirring up the substrate.
I have switched back to using charcoal in one of my filters.
I tested the water from the tap and that is perfect as well.
None of these things seem to be working.

Please help the smell in the back room is so bad that we don't even like being back there anymore.

Are you sure its the water??? take a bucket of water from tank to another room and check (smell).
are you sure the fish are eating all food, no wast left if so remove.check condensation cover for wast food. Not going to be a great help cos I have never had this problem or herd anyone else with it. what was the test results out of interest?

I have a cheap test kit and everything was in the green (meaning good)
I never thought about maybe the smell coming from the hood... I have a lexan cover. I will try those things tonight when I get home... Thanks

in the open fish pond, there are times the water smell like
a bottle of ammonia being used when someone had fainted.
in one instance, my tank smell the same but eventually
gone after few days of continuous filtering.

when I woke up this morning the smell was not as bad but it did still smell. I think that if I keep doing what I am doing then it should work itself out ok

if i may ask, where is your tank located... there are times that water
evaporation makes the poorly ventilated room moist and create foul odor
like cat's droppings. aquarium at the basement usually experience that
when not properly ventilated. same is true when carpeted.

thats a good point.... my tank is in the back room with a lot of windows so I think the room its self is well vented but the tank has a lexan cover that I made and it custom fits to go around the heaters perfectly so there is not much room for the evap to escape. I might have too rethink how I mad this.... you agree?

When you clean your hood use lime juice, it will clean it fast and easy and leave a good smell
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!

Lemon juice might work just as good but I haven't tried that yet. I'm sure it's the acid in it so I'm wondering about tomato juice.
