I just got 2 beautiful oscars. One red tiger and the other albino tiger. They seem okay and are starting to eat a little bit, but I notice them swimming on their sides quite often. Is this normal? Sometimes they swim normally, but they are on their sides a lot as well. Its almost as if they are being lazy. Not sure though.
75 Gallon tank. 4 Red Finned Tinfoils, 1 kissing Gourami, 1 opaline gourami, 1 pleco, 1 red taled shark, Soon...2 oscars.

They could be just getting used to the new tank. Have you checked your water to make sure it's ok? Is the tank cycled?
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!

x2, yes they can be a little unsure of new surroundings and when timid do lay sideways. keep a eye on them and try watching with lights out. as asked have you cycled and tested water.

I havent tested the water in a while, but I do water changes regularly and all of the other fish are doing well. the tank is about a month and a half old now, so it should be fully cycled.

It should be cycled, but still may not be, mine took 8 weeks with 30 plattys in as sacrifish, which my 2 6" oscars finished of in one night!

ive noticed whenever i move an O to a new home that they will sometimes swim sideways, the last fish i moved even started swimming upside down, but after they get used to their surroundings they should settle down.

if you notice any other strange behavior or he continues swimming like this for more than a couple of days, then you should check back for more advice

another area of concern is the eyes. please check if there is
no blur or white spot on any eyes. sometimes, when one eye
is injured, oscar swim side way using the other eye.
