Well, my oscar is doing great... when im not in the room! Seems everytime i walk into my bedroom, he stops swimming around gleefully and sulks at the bottom, sometimes playing dead! I'm lost... is my fish scared of me? Or is he still getting used to me... he wont even eat when im in the room. I figured this all out when one day i peeked in my room, without him seeing me, and he was swimming around, and eating! Any tips? Suggestions?

How long have you had him for? Could well be getting spooked every time he sees you. I think fish on their own can get more spooked than if they are in a group, or a couple. Oscars like their food, you could try spending a little more time in front of the tank. It might take a while, but he has got to get used to you. The longer you stay out of the room because you think that he doesn't like you, the longer it will take for him to get used to you. How big is your Oscar? Whereas younger Oscars do need to eat a couple of times a day, you could take advantage of the fact that they are always hungry. Maybe feed him once-a-day. He may start getting used to a lot more if he's hungry and wants food. It's worth a try.

I come across something different every day with Oscars. I have quite a few Oscars but I have never come cross one that's been frightened, they are always very active and willing to take food from anyone

Well, he's just a baby, and I've only had him for 2 days now. So that could be it, and I'm at work for the better part of the day... I guess I just need to watch more tv in my room near the tank lol. He is definately eating his food now, but he just doesnt eat right away when Im standing nearby.

Sounds like he is just a frightened little baby who needs some TLC
