Hey iv got a few random questions about my oscars. I have an albino tiger oscar and also a black tiger oscar.

Why do oscars move rocks and then twitch?
Why do they have real bright orange dots?
Do the colours on the oscars mean anything to other oscars?
Do oscars drink water in the tank?
How do u know if your oscar is fully grown?

Thankyou!

Moving rocks is part of the breeding ritual. What they are doing is preparing an area in the tank to lay eggs. Whether they move things because they don't like a rock in a particular place is very debatable. Switching is something all my Oscars have done. Are you referring to what looks like an electrical shock? Again, I think it's got something to do with the breeding. My Oscars only do it when they are concentrating on cleaning rocks and shovelling gravel. Obviously, I can be absolutely sure on this. It's just what I've observed.

Are you referring to the eyespot? I would imagine this is some kind of defensive mark. Some caterpillars have what looks like eyespot on their tails

You have got to remember that all Oscars apart from the wild Oscar had been artificially bred. In the wild, colours certainly do have a big part in breeding. In the very beginning, you would have and one colour fish, other period of time, you would have got all the other colours from fish choosing the most appropriate mate because of their colours. Malawi cichlids in particular have been observed to choose the most brightly coloured mates. So you can see how colours would evolve over millions of years.

No, fresh water fish don't actively drink water.

As for how do you know when they are fully grown? A rough guess would be around four years.

I have now 2 PURPLE Oscars, I thought they were no longer available (It says on the book:"Oscars breeding and feeding them in captivity").

I would love to see pictures of your fish.
Keeping fish is only as hard as you choose to make it.

The eyespot on the tail is to confuse predators into thinking the tail end is the head end thus giving an oscar a better chance of escaping

OK, but purple oscars are often dyed, and this is a cruel practice. But if it's only on his fins, i doubt it's dyed, just a cool oscar:)

They really look real (purple), I think it might be a different form of a Tiger Oscar because there are some spots on his tail.
