Decide what your budget is and see what you can get for your money. A year and a half doesn't seem very long for something to last before it packs up.

Remember the old cliche? "You get what you pay for"

I personally don't use an air pumps I couldn't tell you what is good or not. However, I would probably go for a good quality Eheim if they do them.

I bought this pump for my 125. It's deff and upgrade from the tetra 300 (which I have also). The price is comparable, and it's needs no oiling. I don't know what size tank you're using, but this pump is all I'll ever need in my 125.

air pump is intended to augment oxygen dissolve in water. some
people uses it for bubbles effect background inside the tank.
i had one before but stop using it. you can create agitation
through the discharge point of the pump, thus minimizing power
consumption and less humming vibration sound.

usually, a hole in the rubber diaphragm make it useless. some
lfs carrying air pumps sell such spare parts.

I use a pond size airator, i buildt it in a soundproof box.
Those big ones have the possibility to replace the membrane, and don't have to buy a new unit.
I use a lot of air because i use the warmth of my lights to warm the tank, I got no seperate heater..
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Are you sure you need a new one? Can't you just replace the diaphragm and such?
Buells don't vibrate, they throb with enthusiasm.

i dont use airpumps either. i had 'm for a while in my oscartank but the flow of the onboardfilter creates alot of fine bubbles. so no need. it saves me tough times to fall asleep with that noise at it is in my bedroom

Actually I have two air pumps and to eliminate any humming/vibrating I put my pumps into a tupperwear bowl and covered it completely with my leftover small gravel. No noise or vibration at all anymore. I've even heard of some using kitty litter if they don't have any gravel around. Mine actually didn't make too much noise to begin with but since I have 2 penguin emperor filters and 2 pumps any noise reduction is good noise reduction.
