I thought i would update you all on my tank. About 2 months agao i set up a 6 foot 540ltr tank for my Oscar Mastodon, I have had hime for just over 1 yr and he is 11+ inches. The day i set up my new tank i added a new lution who was about 6 or 7 inches and called her Pandora. In the begining Pandora spent most of her time hiding in sunken ship which was put in to the tank as a hidding spot for her while she settled in. Mastodon harrased Pandora alot in the firts few weeks but was nothing serious. After about 3 wkrs i removed the sunken ship. Mastodon still harrased pandora a bit he would chase her into the corner but as long as she stayed to her side he was happy to stay to his side. He contiued to be a bit of a bully but no marked were ever made and it seemed mostly harmless. I did try the "TIME OUT BAG" on a few ocassions, it did help pandoras confidence but didnt to much for Mastodon except make him angry and he would put her right back in her place after he was let out.
Anyway over the last few weeks Pandora has been standing up for herself and squaring up to Mastodon, Both fish looking pissed off with mouth open but once again thats as far as it goes most of the time and i have never seen one fish hurt the other, sometime Pandora even seems to the the domanite fish while other times Mastodon gives her a quick chase round the tank. Still no serious fighting, pandora is about 8+inches now. Each fish has its own side of the tank and they like to keep to them selves. I would really like for the to swim round like best buddies but as long as there not trying to kill each other i'm happy! During feeding they will both beg for food and not really be bothered by each other, once they realise there is no food left the might square up a bit then go back to there own side ot the tank.
I have also added 3 x 3inch clown loaches to the tank and they never get bothered by the O's.
So i know own 2 x O's, 3 x Clown Loaches, 1 x Ghost Knife, 1 x Sydontis Catfish, 1 x Redtail Shark and 1 x Bristlenose Catfish.
I have had one problem though, my canister filter is leaking. I Have a top of tank wet dry trickle filter and an internal filter running as well so my water is still in top condition. My canister has leaked before but i pulled it apart put it back together and it was fine. I recently opened it for changing the media and it leaked when i put it back together and it still leaks and hasnt been running for 2 or 3 wks, i have been keeping the Bio media in the tank to keep the bacteria alive. The leak seems to be coming from either where the water enters or exits the filter and the whole head unit of the filter fills with water then it leaks through the hole where the power cable comes out. I brought the filter brand new off ebay just over 1 yr ago, i contaced the seller and all he said to do was pull out the valuve and put it back together which i have done on several occassions. I have pulled it all apart allowed it to dry anywhere from a couple of hrs to a couple of days but it still leaks.....Any advice? By the way it is a Jeabo Filter....not the most expansive of filters.
