Unfortunately, algae can be a problem in any fish tank. There are ways to minimise its growth. Keep your nitrate levels low, don't put your tank near a window, and don't leave the lights on for too long.

i cut my light time down and tank is not near a window i keep doing water changes probably about 1 - 2 times a week and test water once a weak nitrate is a little high around 20 - 40 ppm and my ph is a little high to about 7.3 - 7.5 what do u suggest my ph was higher but about a week ago i got some Wardley 3 in 1 7.0 pH water conditioner which is suppose to buffer water to 7.0 ph, neutralize ammonia and eliminate chlorine i was wonder what should i keep my ph at?!? and what to do about the high nitrate. and some of my gravel turns brown form the algae i just mixed it up when i did the water change (gravel-vac). Other that that fish are fine eating well and very healthy i got 12 ghost shrimp and 12 guppies and put them in the tank and my tiger oscar and blood parrot ate them very fast.

Also u were right about the oscar growing bigger and stronger than my blood parrot the blood parrot still pick on the tiger some times but then he chased and lip locks the blood parrot and does not seem scared of the blood parrot anymore rather the blood parrot is scared of the oscar. Also my oscar occasionally eats pieces of gravel when eating the ghost shrimp on the bottom most the times he spits them out but one day i put like 15 guppies in there he ate two and just started to sulk and sit on the bottom and then all of the sudden he pucked like 5 pieces of gravel out and was back to normal sorry about all the question but i grew up with fish and this is my new oscar ive had for 3 months and would never get another fish again i love my oscar
