Sorry if this has been discussed, I tried a search but the database told me to bugger off.

I'm keen to hand feed my new babies, and would appreciate any tips in this regard as I have no clue how to go about it.

They already take food from my fingers quite easily, and I feel those little bites.

What I'm wondering most of all is when people say Oscars bite, are we talking like a cat scratch kind of bite here, or a more serious matter?

I've never been bitten by an Oscar before, but then I've never purposely put my hand in the tank with food either.

as far as what i have read on several sites. they tend to say no.
second i think it might stimulate 'm to go jumping out of the water to get faster to teh food in your hands and hereby hurting themself or jumping out of the water when they get floating food and landing on the floor etc.

At the end of the day it's really down to the Oscars being confident enough to take food from your hand. In my household Oscars will grab food out of your hands before you got a chance to drop it in the tank.

As they get use to you, I'm sure they will take food from your hand. There really isn't any information written in stone that explains how you can make Oscars do it, they just will if they are confident enough.

patience and gentle feedings. every now and then i lower my hand
with a lot of foods in it. the first time, they are hesitant to
grab.... but now, i am the one who is jolting when i felt that
tingling grab in my hand.

you can bear the pain of oscar bite. yes, it draws blood with
those tiny teeth but nothing serious. i used to be bitten by my
oscar during spawning. they treated my hand as intruder whenever
i am scraping the glass.

So it's pretty much the same as a cat scratch then?

Or even less so by the sounds of it.

no, cat scratches are quite painful, if an Oscar catches your finger, it really doesn't hurt at all. Someone was feeding my Oscars a few years ago and they got caught just above the nail on their thumb and it started bleeding. Bear in mind that this is very thin skin so it doesn't take a lot to penetrate. I very much doubt they can cause a deeper cut on your finger. It's not as if they've got sharp teeth in their mouth, it's more rough on the edges of the mouth
