TOPIC: something wrong with oscar eye

something wrong with oscar eye 2 years, 10 months ago #45611

hey guys something is wrong with one of my oscars eye not sure what it is, dont think its cloudy eye as its a dark colour, and hes gasping for air and has been hanging around the top for a few days now, Have checked the water and everything is all good, the other baby oscar is doing fine just this one, I first treated with easy life but no improvments now trying melafix but still nothing so thinking it might be more serious.

the pictures shows that your oscar is suffering from ammonia burn.
gasping for air is another sign of water problem.
the body also show intestinal infection (slim body which is not normal to O)

how did you test your water or what kind of testing kit do you have?
it seems to me that your fine water is not fine at all. kindly re-check.
melafix can make your fish refuse to eat for a while.
how big is your tank?
how long have you got them?
how many fishes do you have?

thanks for the info paul, the tank is not that big still waiting for them to grow abit more until they go in the big tank with the adult oscar. Looks like I have to retest again, but I do regular top ups and put chemicals such as prime in when adding new water which removies ammonia if im correct. what should I do to help with the eye???

Prime removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Prime converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter.
btw, write the results down of ur tests and post them here please makes it alot easier for those who know more then me about it to say what is the problem
test for ph, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites

I don't like the look of that Oscar. When you've been keeping fish for a while you know when something is wrong. Unfortunately the fish looks distressed. The way it is hanging under the surface of the water would indicate that there is a possibility of toxins in the water, or that it is actually ill.

I would recommend a liquid test kit, high favour aquarium pharmaceuticals or Tetra

I agree that oscar does not look healthy at all... deffinetly get a test kit and start doing daily water changes right now

ok now im thinking its HITH as pulled him out to see how he will go in a tank alone and noticed a crater on his head, Is it contagious to other oscars? I know its a gene triggered from stress and what not but can it activate in other fish in the same tank? will get pics and water readings soon

X2 i would not add any more treatment until you know whats wrong. I would do a large water change as I think its poor water quality your fish is suffering. most likely ammonia but thats just guessing. the test kit will confirm things weather the fish is ill or poisoned but changing the water in the mean time will help. make sure you treat the new water for chlorine.
Whats size is the tank and filter? what other fish?

maybe its just lack of oxigen due to the massloads of medicaments that cause oxygendepletion? or maybe thats the reason for his gaspinG? ( just thinking a bit )
