My oscar has had a damaged dorsal fin for about three weeks now and does not seem to be healing. I purchased him this way thinking that it would heal up with my better water condition. It seems to just be a chunk taken out. I was wondering if Melafix might help heal this up? Also that wouldnt hurt my beneficial bacteria would it? Or it you have any other suggestions that would be great.

Parameters in case you were wondering:
Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:10

I think it would, if you use carbon take it out before adding the meds, Melifix always works well for me. Are you like me and sometimes get the sad looking fish to "save" it?

Haha, i am kind of like that he had a few other scratches and wounds but those healed up nicely once i got him home. I will have to get some melafix then. I dont use carbon in my filter so i should be fine there. But you have never had any water condition problems after using? For example ammonia spikes?

nope, I'm very lucky with water conditions even though I have hard water. All my tanks stay calm for the most part as long as I keep them clean.

I don't think anyone over 19 works in the petsmart here, I was told by one guy there that the little O's they had wouldn't get much bigger than 4 or 5 inches. I get my info here now and reading online.

No I didn't take the time, I got my salt and left
I hope you have good luck with them, my Sevs laid again and ate them the next day. I don't even get excited anymore.
One of my bala sharks died today with the white string hanging from him, I know it's a parasite but should I treat the rest of the tank just to be sure no one else has it?

I think I would just to be safe... I can't see what it would hurt.
