They are fine... As BGH told you his hides all the time. Mine are active some days and not at all on other days. It depends on the fish.. But I am sure they will be fine.

And you aren't a pain at all..

I absolutely detest youTube. It's a dark and disturbing place that I really don't want any part of any more. I have various videos that I put on their couple of years ago and you wouldn't believe some of the comments that have been left by some of the cretins that frequent YouTube.

I would ignore what people say on youTube, most of them haven't a clue what they're talking about.

Your oscar will grow as his own pace, just do your best to make his life great and ask these fine people about your concerns and everything will be great.

Hey Boss, posty some linky for those videos?

some people say how big their oscar is/are with excitement, thus,
making it/them bigger than the actual size. water could also
magnify the fish/es and could affect the size description.
but no way one could spurt the growth of their oscar at that rate.

i am sure that he will be ok, my tiger grew slowly for the first 5 months, but has grown about 3 inches in the last 2 months.
---water quality is key for growing a healthy fish.
what are the water parameters exactly?
you said no nitrates... there should some nitrate readings to show that your biological filter is working
Please, for my sake, change your oil!
