I purchased a really nice piece of drift wood from the lfs... I brought it home and boiled it really well the put it in the tank... this morning I woke up and my water is discolored. it looks the same color as the wood... My question is... Is this ok for my Oscars and if not what is the bad news? I did do a 50% water change this morning and it was better but still discolored..

This often happens when you put wood in a tank. It won't cause any harm to your fish whatsoever. The only effect it may have on your tank is dropping your pH so you should keep an eye on that.

It's hard to say how long it will last, it could be a few weeks, or even several months before the water is totally clear.

The colour wont harm your fish if you keep your tank maintained properly. most people soak the wood in water (changing the water daily) for a week or so before adding to the tank. This takes the initial staining out, however it will still give your tank a yellow tinge for a few months
