TOPIC: Small white spots on my oscars eye

Small white spots on my oscars eye 2 years, 9 months ago #48069

I have had my new oscar for exactly a week now. He is a very cute and healthy looking albino. I have him in around a 40 gallon tank and he is a little more than two inches long. Maybe a couple days ago I was admiring him when I noticed a few cloudy spots on his right eye. I didn't think much of it but now they are still there and I'm beginning to worry. He is all alone in his tank and is otherwise perfectly normal and is eating well and looks happy. I will post my water conditions in a minute.

Ok my ph is around 7.5 ppm, my ammonia is 0, my nitrite is 0 and my nitrate is around 20 ppm.

I've seen something similar before. Without actually seeing your fish I'm really only surmising. However, I think that because the eyes are very sensitive, there may be some irritation when being transported from one tank to another, you may find that its eye develops a cloudy film which will disappear after a few days, maybe a week or so.

Your water is in good condition that we don't have a worry there. Just keep an eye on it and hopefully I am correct.

Hi, most eye problems are related to poor water. the results you have posted are fine, so its my guess that the person before you had a problem with their water. be it a shop or other persons. The best you can do would be maintain the water has it is and keep an eye on your oscar. you could add melafix but i would not start treatment at this stage as most small eye problems will clear with good water conditions. Whats the general condition of the fish as a hole, fins body, eating? if these are fine you have probably notice the problem early, thats a good thing. if you can get a close clear pic of the eye( very hard at best of times) it may be worth posting. If it gets larger re post and ask advice and retest water. dont worry to much there is a good chance it will clear and be fine.

If the spots are pin prick size then keep a very close eye on your fish over the next few days. If your oscar gets more white spots on the body then he has 'white spot'. Treatment is water temperature at 30c for a week or so, or you can add a treatment to the tank (remove carbon form the filter- this is a good idea anyway as long term carbon use can cause problems)
