my poor oscar just died. i recently went on vacation, and the person watching him let his tank get filthy, so when I came home,it was so filthy that i could barely see him, and he suffocated.

how long did you go on vacationn for man if i were you id invest in some proper filtration a good canister filter is a must with oscars any one here will tell you if you have a canister and your tank got that dirty it must be fuked

any filters will work as long as u have the right size i would at least run double the size filter as ur tank. or even a wet dry filter work great and u can build them urself.

aparantley the filter head was clogged with left over food from him over feeding him. it caused the tank to dirty in a hurry ( it doesnt take much since i feed him jumbo sticks.

Since I got my sump running I go out more easily.
It will take allmost a week before I have to replace the pre-filter cottonwool, and I'm lucky to have my 75 year old mom looking after my fish and enjoying them while I'm gone!

I find that pre filter cotton wool clogs way too quickly so i dont bother. Tanks run good without it

this sucks. just as i was about to up grade to a 55 gallon!WTF!

Sorry about your loss. When you go away its preferable to have someone who keeps fish to look after yours, that way they will hopefully know what to look out for and also know what to do if problems occur
