wow i aint so sure on that... it might be ok but that jag is gonna be awful aggressive twords your oscar but thats my opinion others will chime in soon
your tank will barely house that oscar once its full grown so there can be no tank mates or decor

good luck and welcome to the site

calculate your size by using this simple tank size calculator.

If your tank is less than 55 gallons then it really isn't big enough for an Oscar

Your tank will be fine for a few weeks but not long term. Test your water weekly at least and if your nitrates go above 50 then do a large water change to keep your nitrates as low as possible

it says its only a 35.5 so is that very bad for the oscar to leave him in there for about one year until i can afford a bigger tank?i mean i could always put him/her in the 100gal once it is up and running but that means going in with my 4" jaguar and at the rate hes growing i dont think the O will last to long:(

Re:help 2 years, 9 months ago #48612

well im not to sure bout the growth rates of a jag.. but odds are it aint as fast as the o" so personally id put the Oscar in the 100 gal and leave the jag hanging till u can get him a bigger house,, all i know is Oscars grow like crazy

My O has reached allmost 11", and is not even a year old....
So they do grow at a stunning rate.

Jags have a reputation for aggression but like all fish it depends on the individual fish. Just try them and see what happens. Remember to keep checking the nitrate levels and dont let them go about 50. You will also have to clean your filter more often

why wait that long. if your existing tank is fully cycled, use
all contents including the pumps and transfer your fishes asap,
you will have a cycle tank. you can cycle the smaller tank later
if you have plans to used it.
