I found my Oscar on the floor this morning when I went to feed him. Is it common for Oscars to jump out of the tank? I don't know how long he had been out of the water but he was barely clinging to life. He's coming back to life slowly but is having a hard time staying upright and swimming above the stratus. Is there anything more I can do for him?

For a start, you really should have a lid on the tank when keeping Oscars. They are notorious for jumping. This is not the first time I have heard about this happen and I don't suppose it will be the last. He is probably very stressed at the moment. Just let him settle down a little, don't try to keep feeding him if he doesn't want to eat. There isn't really a lot you can do but just wait.. Unfortunately, stress can have a bad effect on fish so just give it a few days. I very much doubt that he was on the floor for hours, I don't think an Oscar would stay alive for that long. However, stranger things have happened. I was keeping a catfish in a bucket the other day and exactly the same thing happened. Not sure how long he had been on the floor for all that he wasn't any worse for his experience.

Fish get their oxygen from water. I have been told that they can get some oxygen as long as the gills are wet, its when they dry out that they die. You obviously got to your oscar before it dried out. I doubt it was on the floor long. Give your oscar some time and hopefully he will recover

I was buying a fish once and it jumped out the back of the tank. It took us 5 minutes to find it (on a ledge next to the tank) and he has been fine ever since so dont worry about any long term problems because of this

You really should look into getting some cover glass for your tank or a lid or preferably both. Oscars can and (as you found out) do jump. While you are sorting out a lid and/or cover glass place a piece of board on the tank to stop him jumping out again
I can't get no sleep

Thanks for the advice. The tank is covered but he got out nonetheless. I've secured the lids so this doesn't happen again.

I had the exact same thing happen to one of my Oscars but luckily i was sat there watching the tv when it jumped out and landed on the tv. The tank he jumped from was about 6 feet off the ground. He was fine once i managed to get him back in the tank but he was only out for a few minutes.Your problem is you dont know how long he was out. The damage done to the fish may not yet be apparent and will depend upon what he fell onto. Oscar like all fish have a slimy mucus which protects them if the fish continued to flap around on something like a carpet it could well have taken off a lot of the mucus leaving the fish susceptible to secondary skin infections. You must ensure that the water quality in his tank is excellent until he or she is fully recovered. The fish could also have sustained some internal damage if it fell onto a hard floor.
