Hey guy,iv posted a few time with Qs about fighting oscars and if I should split my oscars up or not and im sure im getn parinoid as that about my babies but I care for them both so much uknow how it is.lol hooooked.

So everyone tells me if they start causing serious injury then they should be split up. Well my 2 MALE!!! Oscars( I don't know what sex they are yet but they act like 2 males.lol) are best mate 95% of the time but fight sum thing bad when they do. But like I said should I let that 5% split them up? So to cut a long story short....what do you call serious injury??? These guys take a bit of bark off each other but it heals up within about a 3-4days. Is this serious injury?? What is? And when is enough...enough

It's very difficult for us to guide you because we can't see what is going on. However it seems that the situation is playing on your mind so maybe you should split them up for a while. Obviously if you have not got another tank you would have to rehome one of the Oscars.

Any injury that causes physical damage is not good. But it is the case that the Oscars do sometimes injure themselves. The injuries will heal up quite well if the water is in good condition.

Most of us who have more than one Oscar have gone through this at some stage. In my experience if the Oscars are getting on for most of the time, I let them get on with it and accept the fact that they will injure themselves occasionally. As long as the fighting isn't serious aggression, things should work out okay.

Ok so iv put a towel over the tank front...not all the way so it is still light in the tank, and they give it up and stop fighting....so will they fight for attention at all do you think. P.s this tank is in a room where people hardly go in namely our bedroom. So human interaction is at a min most days and they only fight when I sit in the room. Sorta like they fight for my attention or am I reading into it to much.lol

i had my o's for a year and a half or so and they got along beautifully, at one point they even dug a spawning pit and had me waiting on eggs that never showed up. then i moved, and after the move, for weeks straight they battled constantly. sadly i had to donate my smaller one to my LFS as i feared it was going to be killed. he started loosing too many scales and would just lay in a corner on his side all depressed(when he wasnt being stalked by his roommate). i didnt have the heart to let that continue any longer and split them up. hopefully yours will come to an agreement and you dont have the same issue i did. best of luck.

If one oscar is getting bullied so that it hangs around hiding or on the bottom all the time then its time to separate. Likewise if one oscar is always carrying some injuries (i.e. getting new injuries before old ones heal up)
I can't get no sleep

well in my case it seems they get on way more than they dont.
and its not at a point were one is always at the bottom sulking.
but there is one boss of the tank, and is always the same oscar.
when they fight the other one does go to the corner but only stays there about half a minute then hes back out looking around the tank.
both still are equals when its feeding time are they both are getting the same amount of food, and they are and always have been the same size. like iv seen those ones and petshops that have been bullied and they are always smaller than the boss of the tank hey?

in my opinion, as long as bullying doesn't make one fish hiding in
one corner and never compete for foods, i won't do anything. but when
bullying shows open wounds, ripped-off fins, or dislocated jaws, then
separation is a must, either new tank or re-homing any one of them.

Sounds to me like one fish occasionally shows the other who is boss and is therefore nothing to worry about. Keep an eye on things to make sure it doesnt get worse
