TOPIC: Feamale randomly snaps at her food

Feamale randomly snaps at her food 2 years, 8 months ago #50102

HI all any suggestions please......
Just recently my female just snaps at her food often missing it,
I haven't change their diet, water condtions or anything...
If it hits her in the face so to speak she will eat it...
I'm not overfeeding etc
Thanks in advance
Just have the one pair of breeding oscars female approx 10 inches Male approx 11 inches and a breeding pair of Jag's. New to the world of fish as converted from parrots hence name featheredfriend, nickname kind of stuck.

Sounds like your oscar is greedy (theres a surprise) and is getting over excited when food comes and is launching at the food often missing, if this is the case then there is nothing to worry about.

However your oscar may have something wrong with its eyes. Have a good look at the eyes to check they look normal. Also can you post water tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate just to make sure your water is good
I can't get no sleep

My first thought was greed.
I've had a look at her eyes they do seem dark(ish)from what i can remember them to be it's as though they fixed. Theres nothing cover the eyes ie, a glaze/haze etc?
See doesn't even see the sinking pellets unless i drop them onto her head.
The Male is in tip top condition, bright colour, yeah greedy lol, boisterous.
He's not harassing/bullying her neither just leaves her be.
Will post water test later.

Its really hard to explain how different a blind eye will look so i am not going to try. Compare the eyes on both your oscars, if they look the same then they should be ok but if they look different it could be your snapping oscar could have poor eyesight
