1. Weekly tank maintenance
2. No carbon in my filter
3. Hikari Specialists' Fish Food Cichlid Bio-Gold
4. Reef Plus Concentrated Vitamin and Amino Acid Supplement

First, I perform a 10 percent water change and a vacuum of the gravel WEEKLY.

Second, I do NOT put carbon in my filter. When I put carbon in my filter, my oscar started getting spots on his head. After I removed the carbon from the filter, my oscar's head cleared up.

Third and Forth, I feed my oscar Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold pellets, which I soak in a concentrated vitamin and amino acid supplement. This combination is VERY high in protein and vitamins.

One thing i would add is test your water weekly before a water change. If the nitrates go above 40 then you will need to increase the frequency or volume of water changed

Welcome to OFL!
Vitamins and aminoacids, eh?
Do any of you OFL-people use this on a permanent basis and should I do the same?

i found that if you use a top quality pellet and supplement with a wode variety of insects and crustaceans then it really isnt a necessary. but it would hurt to do it anyway

I generally only do a water test once a week, and then only change the water when the test indicates it is necessary.

Then again, mind are still pretty small and the bioload is much less.

There is nothing wrong with this, however if your nitrates go above 40 then you need to do bigger or more frequency water changes
