Hey there, I am having a problem with my 55 gal tank turning light green. I do not have any plants in it. I have Just used a Algea treatment and now my Oscars are going crazy in the tank. they are hitting the sides and the top. Any thoughts or help???

More than likely algae. Algae live off nutrients. If you overfeed, you can increase the chances of having lots of algae. Try reducing your feeling for a while and see what happens. Also, leave the lights on from no more than six hours a day. If your tank is anywhere near a window, put some backing on that side of the tank to reduce the amount of light the enters the tank. As for Oscars behaving oddly, this is something they do. I couldn't possibly answer your question reliably as to why or Oscars are doing what they are doing. I would however test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and pH. Sometimes fish can behave oddly of the water conditions are not right.

There are 2 things that algea need to grow, light and food(which is nitrates).

We put lights on tanks so we can see our fish, in the wild oscars live in much darker conditions. So dont bother putting your lights on if you are not there. My lights are on a timer, comes on at 6 and off at 10

As for the food (nitrates) you should be trying to keep these low anyway for you fish long term health. Test your nitrates once a month and try to keep them below 50, preferably below 20. You keep the nitrates low by doing water changes. Only feed once a day what they will eat in 3 to 5 mins no matter how much they beg
