Hi,
I know this has probably been asked a million times before, so appologies.
If you have a fish with HITH in your tank, does the HITH stay with the one fish that has it or can it turn your water toxic and give HITH to ANY healthy O's that you put in the same tank?
I dont mean if bad parameters are what gave your fish HITH to start with, but what if your water is perfect and you just accidentally ended up putting in an affected fish without knowing it?
thanks for any help.

It is debatable about what causes HITH, but fish get it when their immune system is weakened (old fish or fish kept in bad water can have weakened immune systems). A way to cure it is to keep your water really really good. It is not catching from fish to fish. If you add a fish with HITH to a tank with fish that dont have HITH then the existing fish wont get HITH (assuming the water is good)
I can't get no sleep

I have been told a few different things with HITH... One was that it can be caused by leaking electricity... So check your pumps for small leaks and your heater for cracks... Second thing was that it may be caused by carbon, Try taking your carbon out of the filter and just replace it with bio media... Third has already been stated... and fourth was goldfish... Good luck! It should clear up if your tank stays clean.

from all the research that i have done on hith, nothing i have found(and i have poured over litetally mountains of info) has suggested that it is not contagious to fish that do not have it. provided that the water is in good shape there should be no problem with your fish that do not have hith.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

If one fish has HITH in your tank, the others are bound to have it. But if a fish with HITH is introduced to a tank with fish that don't have HITH, the fish in that tank probably won't get it.

Make sense?

I have an article somewhere in the emergency section about HITH...

Thanks Artemis, it was a case of introducing a new fish that "may" have it into the tank, hopefully not, either way, it sounds like the others are ok then.
