hey my oscar has a swollen belly hes just about 2 inches or so by the way had the water checked ammonia is o nitrate is o ph is a little high checked with local aquarium store and they said it was good my oscar is acting normal still chasing food and i just got him a new tank mate his diet is guppies rosies and hikari cichlid gold any suggestions would help thanks by the way link here is for pics of belly and fish

I am afraid that that link didn't show me the picture of your fish. Unfortunately, swollen abdomens tend to crop up more often than not. Whereas this symptom can sometimes be nothing to worry about, on other occasions it can mean the fish has something seriously wrong with it. And note I said "symptom" a swollen abdomen is a symptom and not a disease so is very difficult to treat. I would suggest that you keep a very close eye on your fish, see if he will eat peas. There is a possibility it may be slightly constipated. I would like to see a photo. Unfortunately, we will just have to wait and see what happens

i know its a symptom i understood that trust me ive done all kinds of research i know alot about oscars general knowledge and personal experience i was wondering if there was anything else to look for with the swollen abs other symptoms hes acting find and eating fine and still chasing the last guppy thats been in the tank for a couple of days now lol its went down a bit since yesterday i also found out the wife was feeding the goldfish in the tank with him and tried to pour a little bit of food in but accidentally poured to much in im thinking maybe her eat to much well we will see over the next couple of days ill try and get pics up on the sight and post a link there thanks

Is the swelling both sides of the abdomen? From what I can see of the photo, it looks like a little football. Like I said, you could try peas but I don't think it is constipation, it could be though. If the fish is eating, you could try soaking some kind of internal parasitic treatment just in case it is something like that. Or you could try an internal bacteria medication. This is often what causes swelling in the abdomen. However, it could also be problems with the internal organs, sometimes you get fluid in the abdominal cavity when this happens. If you're able to gently squeeze the abdomen, it would be squishy, that could be fluid. Unfortunately, there is no cure for things like this.

I should avoid giving your fish feeders, unless you breed them yourself. There is always the possibility that you can pass things on through this type of food

i have been breeding on my own now not easy since he can eat as fast as they make babies lol i got home round noon and he looked alot better and is still eating good i think he just might have gorged himself hes looking alot better now and it was on both sides just looked like a full belly thanks for all the advice i appreciate it and by the way ur second responce thats what i was looking for righ to the advice helping to solve the problem thanks carl
