I wrote about a week ago inquiring into my Oscar that has HITH and not eating. She is still not eating and laying sideways in the bottom of the tank. I am continuing to medicate, in case she may pull through, but I honestly have my doubts. I am quite surprised that she has lasted this long.

Anyway, my questions are:

My Oscar's fins started looking torn about a week ago. I figured that it is connected to her HITH and her not eating for so long. I have continued treatment for HITH, but not for fin rot. Now, my pleco's fins are starting to look torn as well.

Should I add bacteria treatment for fin rot, or would two types of treatment be too much?

My Oscar looks like it's nearing the end, should I move her to a hospital tank (I would have to set one up, but have the necessary equipment to do so) so that my pleco will not continue to get sick? Then I could treat her for the fin rot.

Or, could the medication that I am putting in the tank for the Oscar (Hole N Head Guard) be effecting the Pleco?

I ahve attached an image of the Pleco.

Sorry to hear about your Oscar

I think it's always best to isolate fish and treat them on their own as possible. In many cases, the hospital tank is quite a bit smaller than the main tank. This can often save you a lot of money on medication. You will not hurt your other fish with the medication so if you want to do it like that, go ahead.

It might not necessarily be fin rot. Could you send me a photo or post one. For some reason, your photo didn't show on here. Have you use photo bucket before, that is by far the best way of putting photos on the forum.

Occasionally, a fishes fins will become a little ragged, it is not always down to fin rot though. Have a very close look and see if there is any signs of infection, if it is fin rot, there should be some sign that something horrible is going on. Just use one treatment at a time, unless otherwise stated. It's difficult for me to recommend as a lot in my country and medications do vary around the world., have just seen a photo of the damage fins, doesn't look very bad to me. If there isn't any fin rot, they should heal up without any medication.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

I'm sorry to hear about your oscar. Continue doing large WC etc.

That pleco is a common sailfin and can break 24 inches. If you need to find a home for it because your tank is too small (not sure if it is) contact www.monsterfishrescue.com

The plec looks fine to me. This happens to mine occasionally

It dont sound good for your oscar especially as it isnt eating. HITH can be really difficult to get rid of. I personally would not bother with a hospital tank in your circumstances as the stress of moving him could make things worse. Keep doing plenty of water changes
