i was wondering is it ok to have no carbon inserts in my filters? i have a aqua clear 70 and a 30 and my oscar got hith i am treating him for it now but i have the carbon inserts out of the filter. will it hurt him i fi never put them back in after im done medicating him? is there pros and cons to these. he seems more livley now that the carbon is gone. any suggestions? does the carbon play a critical role in my water quality or can i just toss them out and just use the sponge and biomax tablets. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

I have never used carbon in my filters. I really don't think there's any need for it unless you are trying to remove impurities after medicating the tank. Some people say it keeps their water clearer. You have to remember that once carbon is saturated with impurities, they could start leeching back into the tank which could be a health risk to your Oscar.
