black spots.... 4 years, 7 months ago #5200

i just noticed today that my 2 tiger oscars have some black spots on them....any ideas what this could be? and also i have 3 goldfish in the tank(55 gallon) the black spots are visible when they(their whole bodies) turn a grey color and you cant see them when they turn black again. anything to worry about?

Could you post a photograph? Does rather sound like black spot to me. How big are these blackspots, around 2 mm? If it is blackspot, it is caused by a parasite and the blackspot is actual larval stage, or it could possibly be caused by flatworm. From what I can ascertain, this is not a serious condition and should disappear, treatment is rarely needed. In any case, you could try a parasitic medication and treat the tank

Black spots are not serious diseases as wad Oscarfishlover has said. they go off quite quickly. For precaution, juz stand by some medcine for black spots.

well the spots went away after a few days....it seems like when i started feeding them bloodworms thats when it started so i decided to give them the bloodworms only 1 or 2 times a week and so far its working..but they are red tiger oscars and their color is so so pale....somebody at the aqaurium store said i am giving them too much light...usually around 18 hours of light a day. any comments on that?

I dont know if too much light will cause oscars to fade but it will increase algae problems. In the wild it isnt that bright in water. I have my lights on a timer from 6 to 10pm, and a blue light on for 2 hours either side
