I was in the local tackle shop getting some maggots (plain not the dyed ones) today and i noticed they had various baits for sale. One in particular was some soft pellets. Unfortunately they didnt have the ingredients listed. I was thinking of them as a possible food for my oscars. My general thinking is not to do this as i know they put additives in these foods to attract fish and i am guessing these might not be good for oscars.

Anyone else any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't bother, these fishing baits are just made to catch fish, there's nothing nutritional in them at all, just nice flavourings so it attracts the fish. At least the companies who make the Cichlid foods try to make them a healthy meal. Also, a lot of places sell trout pellets which are very high in oil, not good for fish at all. They are made for feeding to trout and salmon in fish farms, so as to fatten them up. If you were to feed these your fish, you could seriously damage their liver.

yes these pellets are of no use i once tried feeding them to my betta fish. When it ate it it spat it out almost immediately.

Pretty much as i thought, however i didnt realise they had little nutritional value at all. Learn something new every day
