TOPIC: too HOT to handle...

too HOT to handle... 2 years, 8 months ago #53700

I have a 135 gallon tank which houses two little (12cm) baby Oscars (names: Big Red and ET). They are eating fine.. I live in Australia and it is almost summer here. the water temp is almost 28oC, withOUT the heaters plugged-in.

My questions is, the weather WILL only get hotter and i wanna know what is the preffered max temp for the fish? and should i be feeding them a little less due to heat or more?..

When summer is hot and my watertemp reaches 29oC, I turn off my lights tostop the temp from going up.
High temps will result in less oxigen in the water.
I know 30oC is no problem, as that temp is used to treat Ich.
But some of the others will surely help out.

30 deg Celcius is still acceptable with o. however, this is the time
when air stone becomes very useful. high temp depletes oxygen, but
with a little agitation and spray bar motion, it helps to expel heat
in the tank.

yup. they should be fine as long as long as you keep your disolved O2 content high enough for them to survive.

Oscars can live in warmer temeratures. If you can live in it, then they will be able to live in it

Higher temperatures result in slighly faster grow, but slightly shorter life spans

I thought all aussies had air conditioning?
