Oscars are one of the fastest-growing cichlid around unlike others which don't go anywhere near as fast. If you mix these two type of fish, you run the risk of the Oscar turning into a complete bully and not giving a smaller fish any chance to feed.

the only cichlids ive had my oscar didnt flat out eat or kill was black convicts. and that was only my breeding pair, the rest got snacked on. but the pair would team up on my o and give him a run for his money lol.

not only a chance to feed but not to grow too after oscar outgrow them,
they will become snacks.

Even though oscars grow fast, they are unlikely to outgrow similar cichlids that grow to 6-12inches so that they will be able to eat them. However it is better to get oscars smaller than the cichlids
