Woke up this morning to find my oscar has a small hole in his head,i think this is hith disease, buti cant understand why seeing as i do a 25-30% water change weekly and test the water weeky (which is fine)without fail. I`ve gone out and brought some octozin and followed the instuctions on the bottle. but when i put the tablets into the water my oscar ate them....Have i done anything wrong???

Oscars often bang themselves and end up with little wounds on their head which can be mistaken for HITH. The best thing you can do is post a photograph so we can have a good luck

hi my fish has developed popeye and my lfs said to use octozin i tyoo followed the packet and my fish ate 2 tablets before i could get the rest out will he be ok will this harm him most of the pill came out his gills but he must have ingested some and i would like to know if there is something i should do
(i know with people ya make them sick not so easy with a fish
)
he is about 7 inches and other than the popeye is very healthy and hungry he seems ok now after eating them but just wanna be sure
i think he may have got an infection after a scratch as he did have a small cut a week ago on the same side as the popeye

Sorry, I don't know that med and have no clue at all if eating the tablets can do any harm, so let's hope not.

I take it the tablets are meant to treat the water and not the Oscar internally, no? Seeing now how two Oscars ate them already, I'd suggest to take a bit of tank water first and dissolve the tablets first in that if possible, then pour the solution in close to the filter outlet. Guess you got that idea yourselves meanwhile but thought better to be safe.
Good luck, hope the meds help now either way

I had the same thing happen in fact I am still treating and I was changing water 2x a week. This is what I did to get it to start to go away.

Water Change 50%
Remove all carbon from filters
Add Freshwater Aquarium Salt 1 tsp for every 10 gallons
Add
Stress Coat
Stress Zyme
Melafix
Feed only extremely high quality pellets no feeders
Change water daily and add chemicals/salt back into the water.
Its been a few days and my albino is already looking better, Good Luck.

Most medicines are designed so that you can overdose a little without killing the fish. I am also guessing that a fish can ingest some without harm. However i suspect most of the tablet wasnt eaten but instead it was ejected through the gills. Those tablets probably dont taste nice

well what i have done is get an old plastic cat toy and remove the bell and forced the remaining tablets into it then just dropped that into the tank he (or she i have no idea) cant get them now

i have been watching him most of the evening and the only 2 things that are odd are
1. he has dug a ditch 18 inches long 9 inches back and about two inches deep in my gravel
2. he has decided to pick on my pleco who shares his tank
he has never pesterd him before he just keeps chasing him and seems to get the gravel from his pit into his mouth and go in search of the poor pleco and spit it on him
i dont know if this behaviour is new the pit certainly is but i am wondering if the aggression is what caused his original injuries
i think i will go ahead and change 20% every other day till his eye looks normal
oh and when i told my g/f about it i couldnt resist telling her that to treat him i was going to use

olive oil
hahaha
well made me laugh anyway
