I posted a few days ago about my Oscars looking like they were getting ready to lay eggs. They haven't yet, and the Violence has mellowed, But I wanted to post pics of my Big Red. This is the damage that the other Oscar did... Is this normal for breeding or are they just figuring out they are 2 males and need separation?





Now, most of the time they swim together and lay together. They have been together their entire lives and they should be about 15 months old.

They can injure themselves during the breeding ritual, the injuries on your fish looks superficial to me, I reckon they should heal within the week

my pair had worse when they spawn.... as long as they swim together,
clean the slate together, eat together.... no need to worry....
but if they keep on fighting without eating and no time for
loving mode,.... then you have to observed a little bit further..
if no changes... then you have to separate them.....

is both of them have injuries???? if only one but do not distance
itself, that is the male who is willing to injure the pain inflicted
by the lady.....

oh women... how can we please you???????

Hi Paul, It is just the male that has the injury.. She (or what I think is She) is fine. No marks at all... I feel so sorry for him(and I know it is a him, I saw his thorn)

That is a beautiful fish! Maybe he forgot to bring flowers? I always like flowers before laying several thousand eggs. Is it just me?

my oscars when they came about being of age... they literally spent 3 weeks trying to kill each other. my smaller one had to go because he didnt have any scales left on him and i thought he was gonna get killed for sure. i put dividers in... and they would chill, and as soon as i remove them... back at each others throats. im pretty sure i had two fish of the same sex.
