I have four baby oscars in my 160 gallong tank and I am waiting on my larger tank to be delivered. I never saw them fight untill the other day. The albino which is a little bigger then the rest keeps chasing the others and then nips thm. No real damage yet the ones tail has a piece missing. Will it grow back and at what point do I seperate them, I have had them for 2 months they all have grown about 1-2 inches. I would think this is probably not a big deal but these are my first oscars so it is frustrating watching one bully the rest. Thanks - Jon

This is always a difficult situation. See what happens when you put them in the larger aquarium, if the fighting continues and serious damage keeps happening, you have to decide what fish to keep, and what to rehome. In many cases, physical damage heals up nicely if the water is in good condition. If damage is very bad, you might have to medicate the tank to help it along a little bit, and reduce the chances of infection setting in.

The water must be pretty good because all previous injuries healed in 1-3 days with no infections I do weekly water changes and have a HOB + a canister filter running.

i've seen this happen with my oscars too and it is frustrating. they don't do any real damage though. just a little scale missing and it heals quickly. every once in a while, if it seems to get worse, i'll go in and rearrange the decor so as to mix up their territories, and the nipping stops for a while until they start to stake a claim to an area again. annoying, but what else do they have to do?
