that when lights are off in the tank the oscar seem to get along more?
in my tank the bigger oscars dominates food and tank mates. The little one seems to be hidding or on the other side of the tank and not daring to cross over to the other side with the bigger one when the lights are on. but when its bed time i turn the lights off and the two oscars swim together and get along. so today i left the lights off this morning and yup there still swiming together and arnt teritorial tords each other. has any ones eles noticed this with there oscars or is this just me?
wierd no?

This is quite common with fish, they will feel safer in dimly lit conditions rather than when the environment is brightly lit. In the Oscar's natural environment, it will often be living amongst tree roots and overhanging branches. Unless you are keeping fish that live in extremely shallow water, most fishes natural environment will be nowhere near as bright as your aquarium

you think maybe leaving the light off for no on will be ok?
i rather the fish be happy than me be happy watching them with the light on.
if anything i have enough light in the room from the windows that i can still see the fish. its not completly dark. but theres no direct sun light on the tank!

i dunno this may seem odd but i got the aquarium for my enjoyment not the fish lol. imma keep mine lit. a bit of aggression is every bit a part of the oscars nature in the wild.
i had mine very very dimly lit with nothing other than a very small lamp with a 15w flourestent bulb for a year and a half. each end of the tank was completly dark bc the lids were wooden planks lol. my o's still faught. i had to give one away and now my big one with the new hood is just as agro as it ever was lol.
i dont think the fish mind, i mean they do get used to it no doubt.
but keep us informed of how your experiment goes

wrap some tape around your tube like a barber pole to block some light and try to get a happy medium for you and your fish

Lol i dont know if i want my oscars growing any faster, im still saving to get a bigger tank and if i can make them pick up smokin or something that be great for now
But yeah i had notice that, I used to have a really agressive white oscar and it would bully the other one. It got to the point were he had chucks of skin missing and the bullied oscar wouldnt leave the inside of a boat ornament i have, but sometimes when it was bed time and i had the lights off i would see them cuddle next to each other and sleep. The bulling stopped until he got bigger than the aggressive white oscar and fought back. They got along very very good after that =D

you know i normally keep the tank light off in my o's tank unless i want to watch them better at night with the lights off or when i have friends over otherwise i have a dark tank and they seem to eat more when the light is off and then they go after the feeders i have for them.
I have lost my mind be back when I find it, maybe.

I reduced my lights to only one TL and my fish seem to like it.
And I got nightlights on at night, but those leave one end of the tank allmost completely
dark.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
