Ive got a tiger oscar about a year old with minor hith issues. I just moved him to a 120 gal tank, and im trying to feed him nutritous foods. Bloodworms and Hikari cichlid gold is what hes been eating for a year. I just started giving him earth worms(which he seems to love). My water quality is good, and I have two aquaclear 110's and do regular water changes. My question is should I remove the charcoal from the filters? Ive read different things and im just wondering what are your experiences with this.

Good water quality reduces the chances of hith dramatically. Charcoal can have a negative effect on water quality if left in your filters for too long. Basically, it removes any impurities from the water. If the charcoal becomes saturated than they could start leaching back into the water again. This is my understanding of the situation, however I have never used charcoal in any of my filtration systems. So to answer your question, I think it would be a very good idea if you remove the charcoal. If you keep your water in tiptop condition, your Oscar should recover 100%

I agree with OFL. Remove the carbon and replace with more filter media. When carbon is used it is supposed to be replaced regularly. If you keep your tank maintained well then you dont need carbon to keep the water good
