I need help with feeding schedule? 2 years, 7 months ago #56724

So far the list of foods i have for my oscar are.....
Baby hikari cichlid gold: My fish hate these never eat them
Flowerhorn aquamaster pellets: My fish love these pellets
Frozen bloodworm: My fish live these also
Peas: Never tried...

How often should i feed bloodworms and how many times a day. Same with pellets please my oscar is like 3 inches.

Whata you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feed them froozen bloodworms for there first time today at like 8:30 and they loved it then 2 hours later at 10:30 i fed them there hikari cichlid gold pellets and they ate it finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also i just noticed that the protein of my baby hikari cichlid gold is only 34-35 percent and the other larger sizes have like 40 percent protein and higher.

Is this a bad thing will my oscar grow slower?

I think that feeding them bloodworms in the morning and pellets in the evening is a good scedule.
And give them an occasional treat ones in a while.Mine loved ciclid sticks as a treat.
Or any frozen or live stuff, like waterfleas or artemia.

i wouldn't worry about the 5% as long as you feed around 3 times a day with a mixed diet small amounts each time making sure all food is eaten. regular and often when small is the answer to good growth. earth worms, crickets, small bugs wood lice, meal worm etc all make a varied diet and stop your oscar becoming fixed to one food. avoid fatty meat and chicken. I personally don't like feeder fish as food cos cross infection is too risky as feeder fish are usually cheap poorly looked after and don't provide good protein. if you can get your oscar eating some peas lentil all the better but most don't take them.

Thxs for your answers so far but....

Are bloodworms bad for fish if feed daily 1/3 times that day?

How often do you guys feed your fish bloodworms?

Also i dont have live or freeze dried ones i have the frozen types.

How much is to much and how much is perfect?

OHHHHH NO!!!!

My grandma changed the freezer to low power and the bloodworms started to thaw out just a little like it became easy to break apart and a little liquidy but the temp in the freezer was pretty cold. Are the bloodworms still good to use, can i refreeze them? In my own powerful freezer?

It didnt exactly melt into liquid it just softened up. but still partly froozen?

frozen block type is what i use. i feed them this as a treat only once a wk as my fish are large full grown and don't feed eveyday. as babys i would say 2-4 times a wk with bloodworm, i used to feed mine a few pellets 1st then top it off with bloodworm. pellets should be around 60% of the diet. if you feed bloodworm 3 times a day over a few days your fish won't come to any harm but you run the danger of having very expensive pets as they may only want this as food. once a day bloodworm with other foods the other 2 times sound fine as long as they eat the other foods and is a real treat. )))) don't confuse hungry with wanting. oscars always want more.

a 3 inches oscar usually eats like a pig.... if it doesn't want a certain foods,
just give him/her a day or two without food and he/she will grabbed anything that
will dropped in front of him/her on the 3rd day.....

now... if you make him/her love something, just give him/her enough for 3 minutes
grabbing, and he/she will be fine for the next two to three days again
