SO i dropped in to one of my LFS today, no real reason, i was just in the area and had some time to kill and they had the nicest pair of Tiger Oscars i have ever see in a shop in my city, actully the nicest oscars i have ever seen in real life. They wanted $150 (australian) for the pair and they are about 8 or 9 inches long. I really want them! I have one Tiger O that i have had since he was tiny, had him about 1.5yrs.
My O has ok markings but the ones in the shop were AWSOME.....was thinking maybe i could trade my O in and get the pair a fair bit cheaper but then i feel bad cause i really like my tiger and feel attached cause i have had him so long.
Another option i have is to get my old tank back, i gave it to a mate when i upgraded, he has had it for months and never used it....the old tank is 4ft x 2 x 1.5. Could put the old oscar in the 4ft and the pair in my 6ft. But if i have 2 tanks the smaller on would have to go in my room and i dont want to be kept awake by the slight hum from the filter......how do all you guys with tanks in your bedrooms sleep???
I could go 2 tanks it would be great BUT in 6 weeks i will be going away to mexico for 6 weeks and will be leaving my flatemates to look after my tank(fingercrossed they do a good job) not to sure if they would be to happy to look after 2 tanks?
I dont know what to do as i really like the pair from the shop but feelt bad to give up my big guy. Have always want 2 O's and had two attempts to keep 2 O's but always ened up with fighting probs. They are being sold as a pair but i dont really think they would be old enough to breed, would suck to get them home only to find out in 2 months they are both males and they whoop each others arses and i have to get rid of one! Could they be really sure they are a pair?
AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH
its driving my crazy and i cant get these fish out of my mind!
The pair have LOTS of orange marking top to bottom, front to back(look similar to the ones in the video) and were very active. The tiger i have has the cool tiger stripes but the orange only comes about half way up his body, he gets fed well and water is purfect so i guess thats just how he looks he is my avatar.
I'd set up the other tank and cycle it, and go to the LFS, buy the fish, and leave them there until you can transfer your old O into the other tank.
Tell them you have to cycle the tank first, and see if they can babysit until you come back from your trip.
Be a lot safer then letting the new guys at the care of someone else and putting your O into an uncycled tank.
One tank is bad enough to leave behind for others to care for for that many weeks...
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small! Plecofanatic Primitive fish Keeper : Florida Gar OscarFishLover!
I thought long and hard about it and as nice as the fish were at the shop im going to pass on it. Just not the right time for me, i'm going away for a fair while and need all the money i can get so spending $150 on fish and prob more on a filter is a bit pointless, i can also sell the old tank for hopfull a couple of hundred which will help out while traveling.
It was a nice thought.
Cheers
