Hello guys,

This happened 5 days ago,
I have a 40 gallon Cichlid tank,
2 Oscars, 2 Electric Yellow, 2 Frontosa, 3 Parrots, 2 Blue Dolphins, 1 Pheno, 1 Johanni, 2 Lemon Peacocks!

Johanni was very peaceful when it had a female but it died a couple of weeks back and the male has become aggressive since!
it is attacking everyone except the dominant male Parrot!

Both the Oscars were its prime target since they are slow swimmers in comparison to the rest,
so it happened like I was sleeping and my mom woke me up telling that Oscar jumped out of the tank, I thought I am dreaming since I never even imagine it and it never happened before (I bought them when they were 1.5" and now around 5")

So, it took me 2 minutes to "realize" and put the Oscar back in the aquarium.

But then I put it in a separate bucket.. It was lying on bucket floor but now its swimming inside it...
Its not eating food..
So guys please advice me what to do cuz jumping on floor from 5 feet for it would be real painful..
and please tell me its survival chances...

best regards,
SAYZ

the aquarium top has a 2" opening from back for pipes and wires...
Now I have placed a glass over it!
my bad luck they made these types of tops in my city!

i had one jump out of the 1 inch opening between my hood and the filter.

if that oscar is still in the bucket, you need to put it back in your fish tank. it should be fine.

Dude,
I am avoiding to put it back unless its fully healthy because the dominant Parrot and Johanni will beat the hell out of it!

if your having severe agression issues, you need to make a decision. if they wont co-exist together then you need to get another tank, or what id do, is i would rehome the trouble makers and keep the more peaceful fish. but keeping an oscar in an unfiltered bucket is not a good plan at all.

i don't know if he would do too much better in the tank as it is very overstocked, and the water quality can't be good. even if they are all still small fish, it is still too many fish for a tank that size
Please, for my sake, change your oil!

yup, 55 gallons is considered the minimum for One oscar.

and btw, i tried keeping electric yellows with oscars. i had 6 of them. the oscar has eaten 5 of them so far.

IMO bad water quality can get your fish jumping!
They'll try to bail and find another pond...
A 40Gl tank with your current stocking will lead to uncontrolable waterparameters.
Time for an upgrade or to rehome most of your fish.
if you want to keep them healthy and alive some radical action is needed.

You guys gave me real tension

Well, Oscars and Johanni are the biggest ones (5 inches)
all others are small within a range of 2.5" to 4"

and I have all of them since past 6 months (before that I only had Oscars and Frontosas)..
and since the addition of other fish, only female Johanni died recently.
I do weekly 25-30% water changes
and use two strong powerhead filters..

BUT... ewwW,
you guys are more experienced with Oscars... I should follow your advices

We recommend at least 55 Gl for a single Oscar.
They can grow like crazy and should pass 10" in a year.
With a tank like yours toxins will buildt up real quickly.
I do a 50% WC weekly, although I have a huge sump.
Do you have any options to upgrade to a larger tank?

Owww..
I actually had only Oscars and Frantosas,

Rest of the fish were added only 6 months back!
so I will give them back to the fish dealer this weekend!

Oscars and Frantosas are fine!

Yeah, I will upgrade the tank by January,
I currently have 3ft Length, 2ft Height, 1.5ft Width (fish dealer told me its 40 Gallon)
and I plan to switch to a 4ft lenght Aquarium!

be sure if you can to get one that is 18" from front to back or bigger, you want your fish to have plenty of room to turn around in there. like my 55 gallon tank i started my oscar in is 12" from front to back, and 22" high, and 48" long. the oscar is now 11.5".
its feeling a bit cramped. lucky for me and my fish i have an 8 foot, 212 gallon tank im refurbishing and getting running soon.

and its like we said, thats 55 gallons for a single oscar. if you have two, your going to need a much bigger tank. if i were you i would invest into the bigger tank, say 100 gallons or larger for two oscars. and then keep those african's in the 40

and MTS begins. LOL
