TOPIC: My Oscar has a "pimple" like growth - Help!

My Oscar has a "pimple" like growth - Help! 4 years, 6 months ago #5831

I'm not sure what's wrong with him but he just started growing this thing on his face. Please look at the pic and message me if you can tell me what it is and how to help him. He's still healthy otherwise, eats great, swims, very active.

Welcome to the site, first of all

You mean that "pimple" on the chin, right? There is no reason to worry about it, many Ocars get that, if not most. I forgot the proper name for it Sometimes it looks a bit sore and then again just like a whitish lump.
Think I read somewhere it's from digging, not really sure though cause mine rarely ever digs and still has that thing.
Including a pic so you can compare if it looks like that (might look bigger on a smaller Oscar).

If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

OMG Thank you so much, I was really worried about him. I was never a fish lover but my (ex) boyfriend wanted a tank and he got a few fish. I bought him 2 very small oscars and his other fish killed the one and almost killed this one. I had to buy a whole setup to save him and now he's growing so fast, I need to upgrade soon. I'm glad that this isn't anything to be worried about, I don't think he digs much either, though.

I do actually mention the strange lump/protrusion somewhere on the site. Like what has already been said, nothing to worry about. I don't think it is something that is caused by digging, I believe it's something that Oscars develop as they mature. I do wonder sometimes whether it's got something to do with them cleaning rocks or shovelling gravel as it seems to be an exact place that comes into contact with the rock. I noticed that some of my young Oscars have already developed this strange lump, and not all of them have done any shovelling or cleaning rocks whatsoever. I'll have another look and see if they all have it.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

Wow, this site rocks. I was worried that nobody would reply and I'd never know what it was. You are all so helpful. I'm glad nothings wrong with my Oscar, I've become quite attached, lol. It does look pretty gross though, lol. I almost wish there was something I could do to get rid of it, lol. Oh well, at least he's healthy
