Okay, firstly, neither a 10 gallon or a 30 gallon tank is anywhere big enough for one Oscar. What kind of Oscar have you got? You need to test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. I think you've got problems due to the fact that the fish is opening and closing its mouth. There could be a few reasons for him doing this, it could be of lack of oxygen in the water, or it could be because toxins are present. When I want you to do is a large water change, 50% at least. Make sure you use a water conditioner. Have you got a tank that is cycled? Whichever tank is cycled, put the fish in it. If you haven't got a tank that is cycled, go and get yourself some stress zyme and follow the instructions on the bottle.

It is very difficult to advise at the moment until we know what situation you are at. I probably won't be on again till morning because it's very late in the UK

Oscars can change colour if they are not happy. I suspect yours has changed colour because your water quality isnt good. If the tank is only half cycled then that is probably the reason. You really should get yourself some testers especially a nitrate tester. You should test about once a month when everything is going good, more often when you have problems. Ammonia and nitrite should be zero, nitrate ideally below 20 but below 40 is acceptable. If nitrate is above 40 then you need to increase the amount of water you change each time and/or do them more often

From a long term point of view you should be looking to get him a bigger home

What do you mean by "good"? What may seem good to you(or the pet shop if you had one test it) may not actually be good. Actual reading would be nice. You mentioned you put a second oscar in there. Does this oscar have the grayness too? As delboybully mentioned, lack of color is often caused by stress, poor water conditions or disease. "Grayness" can also be caused by diet. What excatly are you feeding your oscar? BTW, 30 gallons isn't big enough on the long term for two or even one oscar. Look into something over 100 gallons if you haven't already and plan on keeping them both.

the second oscar isn't long term and i got the tank for cheap and thought a 30 gallon is better than a 10 so. my oscar eats beef heart, guppies and flake food.

Flake is a bit small for a 8in oscar, it also works out expensive per weight, try some cichlid pellets. Also try prawns (frozen will be ok), maggots, worms, meal worms, krill and any insects you can get. sometimes they will eat peas. One day a week i dont feed mine but lots of people feed everyday. Quarantine the guppies for 2 weeks to make sure they have no diseases

There is a possiblilty the oscar just was a bad colored specimen...you could try color enhancers if it really isn't due to bad water condititions...but i'm not 100% sure that's the case just yet.

My little guy turned gray (tiger oscar) and I flipped out. Tested water, everything was fine. About 5 minutes later I saw what was stressing him out, he was trying to pass a huge...I'll say piece of fish waste so as not to offend anyone, lol. After he had finished his business his color was back and was happy as ever.
