i'm a new oscar owner and although i am careful about dropping food in the tank it is inevitable. i have just done a partial water change which i believe you need to do weekly. Anyhow after a week these food particles build up and they have grown mouldy.
i have put a block of mould treatment in that i had from previous but am wanting to know what is the best way to deal with this problem. Is there any way other than chemicles? And if not what is the best treatment.
unfortunately i had to put the tank in between two windows but that was the most suitable place as I have a mob of kids.

You are correct about partial water changes you should be doing 20% water changes every week. This will help you keep your water conditions good for your Oscars. If there is uneaten food then i would suggest that you are over feeding your oscars. If you have small Oscars then they should be fed twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. The tummies of the fish should bulge slightly but not so much as the fish gets older. Feed enough for the fish to eat in a couple of minutes. A quick siphon up will do the trick if you have uneaten food. Check through this site as there are lots of threads on the different foods that you can feed your Oscars. Changing the water along with a varied diet will give your fish the best conditions to grow in.

Dinger is right on you probably overfeeding. Only feed what they will eat in 3 to 5 mins. That way if there is any on the bottom they look for it and eat it. If there is any food on the bottom that is uneaten syphon or net it out. Oscars are professional beggers and always look hungry but dont give in

I would suggest you get a testing kit especially for nitrate. Ideally levels for nitrate should be below 20 but below 40 is ok. If the levels are too high then you will need to do bigger or more often water changes

lol delboybully

You can use a gravel vacum and just go for the crap instead of just having it sit there all day wich does not make for a pretty tank:laugh:
