When you measure your fish do you include the tail or not?

is it in inches or centimeter?

i normally measured my o in two section: mouth tip to tail tip
and mouth tip to base of the tail. and i found out that there are
times the tail is shorter whenever i have a high nitrates. i can not
explain why but it does happen. at the moment, the film on the tail
tip is the basis of my water change. the shorter the film, the higher
is the nitrates.

usually fresh water fish are measured in total lenght(tail included) and when salties are measured the tail is not included(not usre why). i read this somewhere but now i cant figure out where.

This is a subject that used to really annoy me when I was a member of oscarfish.com. They were all under the impression that you used a SL to measure Oscars. This is actually incorrect as you normally use this on marine fish. When measuring freshwater fish, you measure the whole fish, including the tail.
